The world of NIL is here and it is here to stay. In the 5 years of its existence it has had its highs and has had its lows. College sports as we know them have changed forever, and in a lot of cases for these college coaches, if they don’t catch up with the times then they are behind. The stories of athletes like Livvy Dunne show the positivity that NIL can bring to a singular person, and allows them to really make the most out of their brand. However, in cases like Nico Iamaleava, NIL rears its ugly side and shows the consequences of giving 18-21 year old people millions of dollars at such a young age.

The economic and social implications of NIL have risen over the past couple of years, the disparity between programs and sports is at the top of the list for problems that NIL has created. With the good comes the bad, and unfortunately for many women’s sports they have to market themselves in order to make it to the NIL world. Football  and men’s basketball have it easy based on the viewership their sport gets as well as the financial bonuses. Where do we go from here? The good news is that its still early days in the NIL world, and there can be some changes to the system that can create some equality.
